Welcome
The purpose of Management Information Systems (MIS) is to apply computer and communication technology to build and operate systems consisting of people, processes, and technology to create value for businesses and their customers.
The MIS department offers a portfolio of educational programs for traditional students, as well as Information Technology professionals, to meet the high demand for those specialized in this field. Nevada is facing a critical shortage of qualified technology professionals and managers. As a result, our graduates command excellent salaries and benefits from employers in Las Vegas and beyond. Our programs aim to educate students in a mixture of business and systems concepts, as well as technical skills, to prepare them for professional and managerial jobs of the present and future.
The MIS programs are taught by the department faculty who has earned an international reputation for its contributions to the field through state of the art research. The MIS Department at UNLV ranks 20th wordwide (16th in the United States) for research productivity based on a recent peer-reviewed study. Our Master of Science program is the only MIS program admitted to the elite group of Western Regional Graduate Programs (WRGP), which allows qualified residents of western states to enroll at instate tuition rates. Membership to this group was granted based on an external peer-review process that determined the high quality of our program’s curriculum and faculty; our program is one of only three programs at UNLV that have been admitted to this group (the other two are Hotel Administration and Sociology).
If you are a high school student, a university student, or a working professional and are interested in a career as a business information systems professional or manager, please consider joining us. We intend to make our programs innovative, exciting, and valuable for our students.
