College of Business Establishes Dean's President's Council
In a move to characterize the college-wide effort known as The Year of the Undergraduate, Paul Jarley, Ph.D., dean of the College of Business, and Al Smith, Ph.D., assistant dean for undergraduate programs, created a new program called the Dean's President's Council. The council is made up of presidents and leaders of each of the student organizations in the College. Their mission: to shape the student culture within the College of Business.

"Recent student surveys revealed that the College was lacking in a culture of student engagement," said Smith. "We launched this initiative to foster a greater sense of engagement of the students in the College. We are hoping this board will essentially shape this culture."

The council met for the first time last week, and discussed the need for greater levels of student leadership, involvement, and student and faculty interaction. They plan to get together several times during the semester to discuss the needs of students within the College.

The Year of the Undergraduate is an endeavor to redefine and enhance the undergraduate experience in the College of Business. Dr. Jarley and Dr. Smith hope the Dean's President's Council will allow students to shape their environment and success.
