Students participate in 20 courses over 3 terms that are approximately 6 months long.
With the exception of the first and last courses, classes meet every-other Friday and Saturday from 8:30am - 5:30pm and are taken two classes at a time. One class in the morning and one in the afternoon.
EMBA 701 is meets for 5 days, all day. EMBA 720 is the International Seminar and meets for 10 days.
Course Description
Teamwork and Management Effectiveness EMBA 701 2 Credits Students will initially examine why organizations are increasingly adopting team-based work processes, and the circumstances in which they are likely to be an appropriate and effective way to organize. The majority of this course will be spent examining the mechanics of effective teamwork and team management. This includes effective team members and team leadership, organizational support for high performance teams, stages of team development and strategies for managing these different stages, and issues pertaining to international teams.
Laws, Regulation & Ethics EMBA 702 2 Credits Explores legal, regulatory and ethical issues, which affect managers in their practice of business. Incorporates readings, lectures and class discussions of legal systems, philosophical approaches and practical applications.
Microeconomic Analysis for Business Decision-Making EMBA 703 2 Credits Uses the tools of economic analysis to understand crucial topics in business decision-making including: consumer behavior; supply and demand; choosing inputs to minimize cost; product differentiation; firm behavior under different types of competition; pricing and advertising strategies; risk, uncertainty, and imperfect information; government regulation; labor issues; and mergers.
Information Systems Theory & Practice EMBA 704 2 Credits The course aims to introduce concepts of management information systems and decision support systems. Information technology applications are discussed for decision-making and problem solving at the operational and corporate levels. Case studies are used and student participation will be encouraged.
Applied Statistics EMBA 705 2 Credits Business research and decision-making is far more effective with the aid of statistical analysis. This course equips the executive with these tools through hands-on experience with computer spreadsheet software. Students will learn how to find, manage, analyze, interpret, and effectively present actual business and economic data.
Managerial Accounting EMBA 711 2 Credits Focus is on the use and potential misuse of accounting data by managers. Provides a foundation for identifying and analyzing decision alternatives and evaluating success in accomplishing organizational goals.
Executive Decision-Making: Strategy Formation Processes EMBA 718 2 Credits Organizational decision-making processes are more complex than individual decision-making processes. This course explores cases and texts on organizational decision-making processes in order to improve participants' capacities to contribute to the effective manufacturing of organizational decisions.
Global & Macroeconomic Environment for Business EMBA 708 2 Credits Provides an understanding of macroeconomic conditions that impact firms operating in the global economy. Topics include aggregate demand and national income; business cycles; inflation; unemployment; interest rates; exchange rates; international trade in goods and capital; and fiscal and monetary government policies.
Organizational Behavior EMBA 709 2 Credits This course will discuss important concepts and applications in management including motivation, leadership, group dynamics, organization design, decision-making, strategic planning and organizational change. Special emphasis will be placed on analyzing leadership skills of others and improving leadership potential of participants.
Financial Accounting for Managers EMBA 707 2 Credits An examination of the process by which the economic impact of an organization's activities and performance is measured, recorded and reported. Focus is on the methods and procedures that lead to the preparation of financial statements and reports to external audiences.
Business Finance EMBA 710 2 Credits Examines the role of financial management in creating firm value. Covers fundamental business finance topics and the application of basic finance concepts for decision-making in a business environment. The class is taught from the perspective of a senior-level manager.
Strategic Marketing Management EMBA 713 3 Credits This course is designed to give executives an exposure to current marketing concepts. The course will examine how marketing relates to other functions of the firm and to its external environment. Students will learn how to apply marketing concepts in an effort to analyze, initiate and change marketing actions.
Management of Entrepreneurial Organizations EMBA 714 3 Credits This course deals with the issues involved in developing and managing entrepreneurial organizations. Topics to be examined include why some firms fail while others succeed; stages of growth and organization effectiveness; and management systems in an entrepreneurial context, such as strategic planning, organizational development, and leadership.
Organizational Theory: Strategy Implementation Process EMBA 706 2 Credits Organization theory is a core business discipline, which facilitates the effective implementation of organizational decisions and strategies. Organization theory draws on scholarly research in sociology, psychology, anthropology, and a wide variety of related social sciences. This course provides an executive-level overview of organization theory through cases, readings, lectures, and discussions.
Seminar in Financial Management EMBA 712 2 Credits Covers major financial management issues pertaining to a firm's operations. The course is taught primarily through case discussions and use of spreadsheets in financial analysis.
Strategic Management: Business Strategy & Corporate Strategy EMBA 715 3 Credits This course on strategic management explores business strategies (cost leadership, differentiation, tacit collusion, and strategic alliances) and corporate strategies (vertical integration, diversification, merger and acquisition, and globalization strategies). The course draws on economic theories of competition and cooperation, and is built on case studies of firms that have successfully or unsuccessfully employed a variety of strategies.
