Ranel Erickson, Ph.D.

Associate Professor
After receiving his doctorate degree from Stanford University in Operations Research and working at Bell Laboratories in New Jersey for a couple of years, Dr. Ranel Erickson returned to join the faculty at UNLV where he had received his undergraduate degree in Mathematics. He set up the first computer laboratory for the College of Business in 1983 and was awarded the 1991 Nevada Outstanding Extended Education Teacher of the Year. Courses that he has taught cover topics such as quantitative management, management information systems, current events in business, multimedia, Internet and computer programming. Dr. Erickson continues to provide consulting services and develops computer systems for local companies and government agencies. He co-developed a multimedia CD-ROM that teaches idiomatic expressions in American Sign Language that received a prestigious Cinema in Industry (CINDY) award in San Diego. One company, PurchasePro.com, used his patented e-commerce technologies to build one of the largest technology companies in Las Vegas during the dot.com era. Shortly after leaving that company, he and his wife founded a charter school, Explore Knowledge Academy, and continue to enjoy their eight children and a growing number of grandchildren.
